New games, old games, teaching games.

So, as one of my friends asked if I was only going to write on this once, or continue. I'm going to continue :-)

I spent 10 hours last Saturday playing games with people from a gaming group I'm in. Here are the games and my general impression:

Ys - This was a good economy building game that took quite a while of playing before we all got used to the mechanics. I don't think it's one I want to own right now, but I wouldn't mind playing again.

Blokus - I own this game, and it was fun to play with a group of 4. Very challenging abstract, that's also very fun

Perikles - This game was a definite brain burner and was VERY cutthroat. It's highly strategic, and lots of fun too. One of the drawbacks is you cannot drink too much and play it. :-) Looking forward to my copy arriving from Tanga via KC and Rita.

The Princes Of Florence - This was my second favorite of the day. You play as a prince of florence trying to get the best artisans to your town and create works to earn points. It's got a neat geometric aspect to it and I look forward to playing it again.

I've been trying to get Heather to play more games, but I think I need to back off on the complexity level until she gets into the swing of strategic gaming. I'm planning on playing Balloon Cup with her soon which is a light strategy game. I think she'll enjoy that one.

The next games I'll purchase most likely:
Power Grid - I must possess the power!
Masons - I still think this looks like a lot of fun.
Balloon Cup - If Heather Likes it.
Ticket To Ride Switzerland - Good for 2-3 players

Games I own and am looking forward to playing:
1960: The Making Of The President - Want to get on this one! Looks like a lot of fun.
Pillars Of The Earth - Another one that looks like lots of fun.
Combat Commander: Europe - Wargame
San Juan- Card based version of Puerto Rico

The main thing I find is that I don't care about winning or losing for the most part. It's the PLAYING that I like. The interactions between people. The strategy. The removal of my mind from the real world. :-)

TTFN.
